This is our on-line story of the professional development activities of the Enhancing Education through Technology Program grant received by Ottawa Elementary School District #141. Each participating teacher received a laptop computer, software and a handheld computer. Meg Ormiston helped plan, deliver and share the professional development elements of the grant. Focused Professional Development

Release days will focus on developing digital storytelling curriculum across the curriculum emphasizing reading and math. This may include:

  • Storyboarding
  • Collaboration
  • Elements of a story
  • Assessment
  • Publishing on the Internet
  • Integrating concept mapping software (Kidspiration /Inspiration)
  • Integrating rebus software (Pix Writer) (for beginning or struggling readers)
  • Digital photography
  • Editing and manipulating digital images using Adobe Photo Elements software
  • Using a digital camcorder to capture video
  • Edit digital video with iMovie on the iBooks
  • Using handheld computers to collect and present data
